Lúmen é a palavra em Latin para luz. Usada também para descrever a unidade de medida de fluxo luminoso. 
A luz é a figura central na criação de imagens e na percepção das cores. Artistas sempre usaram a luz para enfatizar certos aspectos de suas obras de arte. O contraste da escuridão com a claridade é usado desde a Renascença, com o Chiaroscuro de Caravaggio, Rembrandt e Goya, assim como por Tracey Emin, que trouxe suas frases super pessoais em neon para a arte contemporânea, até James Turrell, que usa a iluminação colorida como tema principal em suas obras e instalações.

Em sua mais nova série, Milenna concentra sua pesquisa na dialética entre construir luz com o pincel e tintas e pintar com a própria luz.

As obras são feitas em preto e branco com tinta acrílica e spray, sobre painéis de madeiras. O neon é então moldado pela artista e estrategicamente  fixado sobre os retratos, para que quando aceso, modifique a pintura com luz e cor emitidas sobre a superfície tela.

Os temas principais da série são os contrastes da existência humana - luz e escuridão, preto e branco, solidão e solitude, bom e ruim. Cada obra é também um objeto que emite cor e luz, contrastando com os retratados, cujas expressões faciais demonstram introspeção, meditação, desconfiança e insight. Os retratos são frutos de sentimentos evocados por vivermos  no meio de uma pandemia, com cada vez mais conexões virtuais rasas e muito menos conexões humanas verdadeiras.

Lumen is a Latin word for light. Also used to define a unit of measurement for a luminous flux. Light is the central figure in image creation and color perception. Artists have always used light to emphasize certain aspects of their artwork. The contrast of darkness and light is used from the Renaissance, with the Chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Goya to Tracey Emin, who brought her super personal neon phrases to contemporary art and James Turrell, using colored lighting as a main theme in his works and installations.

In her newest series,  Milenna focuses her research on the dialectic between building light with a brush and and paint and painting with light itself.

The works are made in black and white with acrylic and spray paint on wooden panels. The neon light is strategically crafted by the artist and placed over the portraits so that, when lit, it modifies the paintings by the light projection and the color emitted on the canvas surface.

The main theme of the series is the contrasts of human existence - light and dark, black and white, loneliness and solitude, good and bad. Each work is also an object that emits color and light, contrasting with those portrayed, who’s facial expressions demonstrate introspection, meditation, distrust and insight. The portraits are the result of feelings evoked by living in the middle of a pandemic, with increasingly shallow virtual connections and less truly human ones.
